Ivanti Neurons for ITSM vs Freshservice vs ServiceNow for mid-market IT

Short answer

For mid-market IT, these three tools solve different problems. Freshservice publishes prices and is usually the fastest path to a modern ITIL service desk: on Nov 6, 2026 the Freshservice pricing page listed Starter $19, Growth $49 and Pro $99 per agent per month billed annually (Enterprise is custom; Freddy AI Copilot add-on $29/agent/month). ServiceNow remains quote-only on its ITSM pricing page — Foundation, Advanced and Prime packages with no list price. Ivanti Neurons for ITSM is also quote-only via Ivanti's request-a-quote flow; Ivanti's datasheet positions cloud, on-premises or hybrid, PinkVERIFY practices, and AI on Premium / Enterprise Premium SaaS tiers. If you are leaving Cherwell CSM, Ivanti's go-forward product is Neurons for ITSM; Ivanti's October 31, 2023 customer communication (reproduced on the Innovators Hub) set CSM end of life as December 31, 2026 — on Nov 6, 2026 the public End of Life hub still required sign-in, so we treat that date as Ivanti's stated EoL from that announcement and partner-republished FAQ wording, not as a freshly scraped hub row.

Who this guide is for

This guide is for mid-market IT leaders — roughly 300 to 5,000 employees, service desks of about 15 to 120 agents — comparing Ivanti Neurons for ITSM with Freshservice and ServiceNow. Two audiences dominate: Cherwell CSM customers with little calendar left before vendor end of life, and teams on older ITSM tools who want a durable platform without over-buying enterprise complexity.

It pairs with our longer Cherwell replacement guide, which walks the EoL timeline and destination options including JSM. Here we go deeper on the three-way mid-market shortlist of Ivanti, Freshservice and ServiceNow.

Facts about products and pricing come from vendor pages checked on Nov 6, 2026: Ivanti's Ivanti Neurons for ITSM datasheet, Ivanti request a quote page, Ivanti Cherwell history page and Ivanti Cherwell refresh / Neurons migration page; Freshworks' Freshservice pricing page; ServiceNow's ServiceNow ITSM pricing page. We give no dollar estimates for Ivanti or ServiceNow because neither publishes a list price on those pages.

Cherwell context: what we can still say about end of life

Cherwell leavers are a large share of Ivanti evaluations, so the EoL facts belong up front — with source hygiene.

If you still run Cherwell, do not rely on a blog — including ours — for contract consequences. Export your data, ask your account team what happens to your tenant or on-prem licence on and after December 31, 2026, and get the answer in writing. Our Cherwell replacement guide has the fuller action list.

Calendar reality on Nov 6, 2026: there is very little time left for a careful platform replacement before that date. Parallel-path a destination decision with a data-protection plan, as the replacement guide recommends.

Ivanti's datasheet highlights generative summarisation, ticket classification, knowledge generation, incident correlation, virtual agent, self-healing bots, AI dashboards, translation and writing assist, alongside core ITSM, asset discovery adjacency, mobile app and extension into HR/facilities via related Neurons offerings. Treat the 58% faster response time statistic on that datasheet as a vendor customer-result claim (Ivanti footnotes FE fundinfo and notes individual results vary) — we do not reuse it as a benchmark.

Freshservice's pricing page positions Starter for foundations (incident, knowledge, portal), Growth for catalog/SLA/on-call, Pro for problem/change/major incident/release/journeys, and Enterprise for sandbox, audit logs and Freddy AI Agent (Classic) with insights. ServiceNow's pricing page lists Foundation, Advanced and Prime capability bundles without prices — see our ServiceNow ITSM pricing explained guide for licence-structure detail.

How to compare quotes fairly

Same-scope quote packet

  • Named agent / fulfiller / analyst count from the same roster file.
  • Year-one process scope: incident, request, problem, change, CMDB/asset depth, major incident, knowledge, portal.
  • Deployment model: SaaS only vs on-prem/hybrid required (this alone can drop Freshservice or constrain ServiceNow/Ivanti options).
  • AI features you will switch on in year one — not the brochure list.
  • Implementation assumption: internal only, partner-led, or vendor packaged — stated in writing.
  • Term length and growth ramp so three-year totals are comparable.

Freshservice's published ladder lets you build a baseline subscription number before other quotes return. That baseline is not a prediction of Ivanti or ServiceNow pricing; it is a floor for the conversation about whether those quotes buy enough extra capability to matter.

Honest mid-market reading

If your constraint is calendar and operational simplicity, Freshservice Pro (or Growth if you can defer formal change) is usually the pragmatic shortlist leader among these three. If your constraint is staying close to Cherwell-style no-code service management inside the Ivanti family, Neurons for ITSM is the conversation to have first — with a quote and a migration plan from Ivanti/partner. If your constraint is a single platform bet spanning IT and other enterprise workflows with heavy integration, ServiceNow belongs on the list, but only with eyes open on implementation cost and fulfiller modelling (see our ServiceNow pricing guide).

Selection process that survives procurement

A mid-market selection sequence

  • Write a one-page scope: users, agents, processes, integrations, deployment mandate, AI year-one list.
  • Build a Freshservice subscription estimate from the official pricing page for that scope (Growth vs Pro is the usual fork).
  • Request Ivanti and ServiceNow quotes against the identical scope packet.
  • Score implementation: partner availability, internal admin capacity, time risk (critical for Cherwell leavers).
  • Run a short scripted proof on the top two — same five user journeys, same sample data shape.
  • Compare three-year totals including implementation and admin heads; refuse vendor-only ROI slides without your numbers.

For Cherwell leavers specifically, start data export and contract clarification now, even before the bake-off ends. A destination decision that arrives after the tenant is dark is not a decision.

Implementation and admin load (practitioner view)

Licence price is not the project. Mid-market failures on these three platforms usually come from underestimating people cost, not from missing a feature checkbox.

Cost outside licenceIvanti Neurons for ITSMFreshserviceServiceNow
Initial configurationPartner-assisted common for Cherwell migrations; no-code helps but data model still needs designOften internal or light partner; request catalog and SLAs are the bulk of early workPartner-led is the norm; process workshops and CMDB design dominate
Ongoing adminConfiguration owners for workflows, AI feature toggles, and integrationsOne strong admin can run a mid-sized desk; watch Asset Units and AI add-onsNamed platform team; role hygiene is cost control (see our ServiceNow pricing guide)
Integration taxiPaaS / Neurons connectors; endpoint tools if in the same stackFreshworks marketplace + workflow orchestrations (transactions may meter)Integration Hub / spokes; easy to over-scope
TrainingAnalyst UI change for Cherwell users is non-zero even when concepts feel familiarUsually shortest agent ramp of the three for a standard IT deskLongest; fulfillers, catalog item owners and CAB users all need a plan

If you are a Cherwell leaver with weeks—not months—left on the calendar, weight implementation risk equal to feature fit. A brilliant ServiceNow design that cannot cut over before tenant risk materialises is the wrong brilliance. Freshservice's speed advantage is real for SaaS ITSM; Ivanti's continuity advantage is real for teams that already think in Cherwell-like configuration. ServiceNow's advantage is strategic breadth when the organisation will actually fund it.

Demo script prompts

  • Show the exact change record flow we run today, including CAB and risk fields we refuse to drop.
  • Import or create 50 sample CIs the way our discovery would, and show impact on forms and permissions.
  • Turn on the AI features that are in year-one scope only, and show where usage is metered or licensed.
  • Demonstrate an HR or facilities request only if ESM is truly in year-one scope — otherwise park it.
  • Export or report on open incidents the way audit asked us last year.

Commercial and delivery risks to put on the decision paper

A fair mid-market comparison is not only features. Put these risks next to the quote numbers so leadership sees the real shape of each option.

  • Quote opacity (Ivanti and ServiceNow). You cannot budget from a webpage. Build a Freshservice baseline, then demand line-item quotes that separate licence, AI packs, asset/discovery modules, and year-one services.
  • Calendar risk (Cherwell leavers). On Nov 6, 2026 the announced CSM end-of-life date is weeks away. Any plan that assumes a greenfield ServiceNow programme finishing cleanly before that date needs an interim contingency in writing.
  • Package upsell (Freshservice). Growth lacks problem/change on the pricing feature grid; Pro is where formal ITIL change usually lands. Price Pro if that is your year-one scope, not Growth with a hopeful upgrade story.
  • Platform gravity (ServiceNow). Once CMDB and integrations land on Now, leaving is expensive. That can be strategic — or accidental lock-in. Say which one you mean.
  • Stack coupling (Ivanti). Neurons for ITSM may be evaluated alongside discovery, healing and endpoint products. Keep the ITSM decision separable so you can still walk away from a poor ITSM quote.

Write a one-paragraph recommendation that names the primary constraint: calendar, on-prem mandate, price transparency, or platform strategy. If the committee cannot agree on the constraint, they will not agree on the tool.

Best for / wrong choice when

Ivanti Neurons for ITSM

  • Best for: Cherwell customers prioritising continuity; organisations that need on-prem/hybrid; teams investing in the broader Ivanti Neurons stack.
  • Wrong when: you need self-serve price certainty tomorrow, or you want the lightest possible SaaS ITSM admin model.

Freshservice

  • Best for: mid-market internal IT that wants published pricing and faster time-to-value on ITIL processes.
  • Wrong when: you require on-premises, or you are buying a company-wide Now Platform strategy in disguise.

ServiceNow

  • Best for: organisations ready to fund a platform and standardise many workflows on ServiceNow.
  • Wrong when: the brief is "replace the service desk quickly" without platform ownership — you will under-scope admin cost.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ivanti publish Neurons for ITSM prices?

No. Ivanti directs buyers to request a quote. We do not invent per-agent prices from third-party blogs.

What does Freshservice cost?

Checked on Nov 6, 2026 on Freshworks' Freshservice pricing page: Starter $19, Growth $49, Pro $99 per agent per month billed annually; Enterprise is custom; Freddy AI Copilot is listed at $29 per agent per month.

Is ServiceNow priced publicly?

No. ServiceNow's ITSM pricing page lists packages and a custom quote path without list prices.

When is Cherwell CSM end of life?

Ivanti's October 31, 2023 customer communication, reproduced on the Innovators Hub announcement thread, states December 31, 2026. On Nov 6, 2026 Ivanti's public End of Life hub required sign-in from our checker, so confirm the listing and your contract consequences with Ivanti directly.

Is Ivanti the only sensible Cherwell destination?

No. It is the lowest-friction vendor-path destination. Freshservice and ServiceNow (and JSM) are valid based on fit. See our Cherwell replacement guide for the wider frame.

Can Ivanti run on-premises?

Ivanti's Neurons for ITSM datasheet states cloud, on-premises, or hybrid deployment options. AI capabilities are described as available on SaaS Premium / Enterprise Premium tiers (with version and FedRAMP caveats on the datasheet).
